Getting started on your crochet journey can feel overwhelming. There are so many resources for beginners, that it can seem impossible to know where to start!

When I first learned to crochet and started making a giant granny square afghan, my only resource was my friend who taught me to crochet one simple stitch.

By the time I decided to branch out into new, more advanced projects, I had access to YouTube, Pinterest, and so many online sources that I was hit with a tsunami of information. It was easy to get distracted and dive headfirst into rabbit holes of information and get completely off track. By the time I found the information I was looking for I had read ten random blogs, watched a stream of interesting videos that had nothing to do with what I was looking for, and wasted all the time I had set aside to crochet.

As I learned and added skills to my crochet toolbox, it became easier to zero in on what I needed when I was trying to learn a new technique or stitch. It was easier to find what I was looking for and not feel overwhelmed by information. But getting to that point took time.

To help you on your journey to master crochet, and get past the information tsunami, I have compiled a list of 5 fabulous resources to get you started, keep you focused, and help you find what you need without taking a detour down the information rabbit hole.

**Please note: I do not benefit in any way from any of these recommendations. These are resources I have reviewed, used, and found appropriate for beginning crocheters because I want you to succeed.

Crochet Resources

1. TL Yarn Crafts

Toni Lipsey, the creator behind TL Yarn Crafts is one of my favorites! Her videos and tutorials are step-by-step, well explained, and very encouraging. I love listening to Toni explain how to do things, she has a voice that just makes you know that you can succeed in life. She has a great series on Tunisian crochet for beginners as well as traditional crochet.

3. BHooked

Brittany has a story like mine, she worked in the corporate world and loathed her 9-5. She decided to kick societal norms to the curb and pursue something she loves, stitching. BHooked offers a full, well-organized, visual tutorial for beginning crocheters.

Hello lovely! Let's get all of the labels out the way so we can talk... I'm a daughter, sister, mother, entrepreneur, writer, podcaster, college graduate, and passionate crafter who has survived raising special needs children, a child with cancer, a heart condition, and becoming a widow at a young age...whew! Made it. But here's the important part... I teach women how to use crochet as a creative outlet for self-care so that they can reduce anxiety and depression, be more mindful and present, and experience joy from their lives. What does that have to do with crafting? EVERYTHING!! Learning creative skills is a great way to care for yourself, activates the creative centers in your brain and lets ideas start to flow, builds self-esteem and confidence, and relieves anxiety and depression symptoms. YEAH, crocheting, knitting, and sewing can do ALL of that! I firmly believe that people WANT to spend time caring for themselves through creativity, but life often gets in the way and the desire to learn gets put on the back burner. Here is your opportunity to finally learn these essential skills and transform your passion into purpose, care for yourself, and feel better! So happy you are here! xo — Lavena
