Getting started on your knitting journey can feel overwhelming. But aside from the mechanical struggles of trying to learn how to hold the needles and yarn, there is also the challenge of learning to read patterns and use new techniques to create projects. With so much information available, it can be impossible to find the best resources and get started the right way.

So let’s take the guesswork out of your journey! I have gathered five of my favorite resources for beginning knitters and I’m going to share them with you today.

1. Very Pink Knitting

Very Pink Knitting is a comprehensive resource for learning to knit, finding inspiration, and even a podcast all about knitting. Also, be sure to check out her YouTube channel for help in your knitting journey with her great videos and tutorials.

3. Paradise Fibers

Paradise Fibers is not solely focused on knitting, but their Knitting 101 course is fantastic. This course uses videos and images to teach you everything you need to know to get started. Plus, I like their simple, easy-to-navigate page for beginning knitters. Their site takes minimalism to the extreme, but what it lacks in fancy website graphics, it makes up for in quality content.

4. The Spruce Crafts

The Spruce Crafts has a great Knitting 101 page with videos and pictures. They discuss important topics like finding a good beginner’s pattern and fixing mistakes in your project. These are essential topics missing from many knitting sites, which can leave a new knitter feeling perplexed. So bookmark The Spruce Crafts website to refer to if you’re struggling through a pattern!

Lavena Perry

Hello lovely! Let's get all of the labels out the way so we can talk... I'm a daughter, sister, mother, entrepreneur, writer, podcaster, college graduate, and passionate crafter who has survived raising special needs children, a child with cancer, a heart condition, and becoming a widow at a young age...whew! Made it. But here's the important part... I teach women how to use crochet as a creative outlet for self-care so that they can reduce anxiety and depression, be more mindful and present, and experience joy from their lives. What does that have to do with crafting? EVERYTHING!! Learning creative skills is a great way to care for yourself, activates the creative centers in your brain and lets ideas start to flow, builds self-esteem and confidence, and relieves anxiety and depression symptoms. YEAH, crocheting, knitting, and sewing can do ALL of that! I firmly believe that people WANT to spend time caring for themselves through creativity, but life often gets in the way and the desire to learn gets put on the back burner. Here is your opportunity to finally learn these essential skills and transform your passion into purpose, care for yourself, and feel better! So happy you are here! xo — Lavena
